Aeration & Diffusion

Welcome to Fairey Filtration Systems Ltd

In January 2012, the businesses of Ceramic Gas Products Limited and Taylor Tunnicliff Limited were consolidated into Fairey Filtration Systems Limited. Fairey Filtration Systems Limited was subsequently renamed Mantec Technical Ceramics Limited.

Many of today's waste and drinking water treatment applications demand an efficient and effective way of introducing gases into liquids. The gases can vary from air/oxygen for 'activated sludge' to ozone for drinking water purification.

Fine Bubble Diffusion

Mantec Technical Ceramics has a range of tube and disc fine bubble aerators/diffusers available in a variety of ceramic or EPDM membrane materials. Mantec Technical Ceramics strives to offer the customer the very best advice on the selection of materials and specifications to meet today's 'water treatment' applications.

Ceramic Diffusers

Porous ceramics have traditionally been used to disperse compressed air, in the form of fine bubbles, into sewage for 'activated sludge' biological purification processes, and ozone injection into drinking water. Mantec Technical Ceramics' range of alumina-based porous ceramics has been developed to both maximise the transfer efficiency and bring to the industry many unique features.

Features of Ceramic Diffusers

  • High gas transfer efficiencies
  • Available as tube or disc
  • Controlled pore sizes (pores from 15 to 650 micron allows material selection to suit specific applications)
  • Available in a variety of shapes and sizes (can be designed to specific requirements)
  • Long history of accepted performance
  • Ease of installation
  • Compatible with many gases (Ozone, Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide) *

* Subject to correct seals being used.

EPDM Membrane Diffusers

Membrane diffusers are characterised by perforations that open and close depending on air flow, whilst at the same time preventing the penetration of water into the distribution pipework; (ceramic diffusers incorporate non-return valves when water penetration is an issue). The high quality of the EPDM membrane material is created by using the latest in computer controlled manufacturing technology.

The main functional difference is in the material of construction when compared to ceramic. Ceramic is a rigid structure whereas rubber is flexible. When air is introduced into the diffuser, the inflation action opens the fine pre-formed slots thus allowing the air to be dispersed as fine bubbles. When the system does not require an injection of air, the membrane unit enables the system to shut down.

Features of EPDM Membrane Diffusers

  • High oxygen transfer efficiencies
  • Available as tube or disc
  • Self cleaning
  • Unique edge sealing
  • No water back-flow
  • Fully controllable air flow
  • Suitable for all sizes of plant

Typical Applications for Ceramic or Membrane Diffusers

  • Waste Water Plant Aeration
  • Potable Water Plant Aeration for Carbon Dioxide Release
  • Ozone Diffusion (Ceramic only)
  • Aqua-culture Pond Aeration
  • Aquatic Tank
  • Carbon Dioxide Injection
  • Pharmaceutical Fermentation
  • Plating Solutions
