Ultralite Plays Major Role in Roof Tile Energy Efficiency

27 January 2012

Mantec Technical Ceramics has just announced its biggest ever order in the heavy clay sector for its unique Ultralite™ material.

Ceric LogoUltralite has been specified for use in all the kiln cars of a tunnel kiln being manufactured by Ceric Technologies for a brand new clay roof tile factory in Poland.

The initial order for this project involves the company supplying 660m3 of Ultralite, a lightweight refractory based insulating material, for this state-of-the-art manufacturing facility which has at its heart the twin objectives of superior efficiencies and energy saving.

This is a most notable success for Mantec Technical Ceramics in this sector of the ceramic industry. The destination is the new clay tile factory commissioned by Etex Building Materials Polska – due to be opened in 2012 in the town of Kościan, which is in Wielkopolska in western Poland. This is about 40km from Poznan. The Polish company was established under this name in January of 2011 and is part of the Etex Group which now has 92 subsidiaries all around the world, turns over around €2 billion and employs 14,500 people.

PCeric Tilesaul Hipkiss, Sales and Marketing Director at Mantec Technical Ceramics, said: “The announcement of this order is significant for a number of reasons. The decision to opt for Ultralite – as opposed to ceramic fibre – in what will be one of the most modern, energy efficient tile factories in Europe shows great faith in our product.

“Secondly, Ceric Technologies has 50 years of experience and know-how in clay and technical ceramics and is well known for its long tradition of innovation, of technological control, and innovative new products. This is the first time that Ceric Technologies has specified Ultralite and we are proud to be associated with such a prestigious project, which represents a large investment by Etex Group and a tremendous new order for Ceric Technologies.”

The tile cassette and refractory provider for the new kiln, Burton, had previously seen Ultralite being used in one of the new lines operated by a major German roof tile manufacturer. The company was happy with the performance – stability, thermal efficiency, environmental aspects – of Ultralite in this installation last year and this would have served to reinforce Ceric Technologies’ decision to choose this product.

The inauguration of the Kościan plant will bring together two great names in the heavy clay industry – Etex and Ceric Technologies – both with a widely renowned expertise and experience and two groups constantly emphasising technical advances. It is expected that the choice of Ultralite in this case will come to the attention of the heavy clay community and lead to an enthusiastic take-up of the product.

Certainly for Mantec Technical Ceramics this development represents a major success and is a contract gained on the platform of a convincing technical, environmental and life-cost argument. As has already begun happening in the area of ceramic sanitaryware, Ultralite is beginning to become the preferred infill material for kiln cars in factories manufacturing roof tiles and bricks.
